Darlington Building Society

Creating a modern, forward-thinking environment for both staff and customers.

The Challenge

Darlington Building Society were moving premises, and were looking to create a branded, design-led interior space that would represent their brand and their staff ethos – warm and welcoming. They wanted segregation amongst the different rooms for different uses, and somewhere they could feel proud to welcome clients and visitors, whilst also helping the employees to enjoy and appreciate their surroundings.

The Project

Having worked with Darlington Building Society on previous projects, the AG team were really keen to help on the project. We began with a site visit to assess the scale and scope of the space available. With 72 walls in total to work across, we began with brand development, pulling together graphics and a visual concept, alongside taking measurements, further site visits and the compilation of a project plan.

Substrates and finishes included vinyl wall graphics, glass vinyls and raised foamex panels to add dimension and texture. One of the main features included a large, white vinyl tree for all staff to add a black and white photograph of themselves, creating a who’s-who tree or employees – a nice, personal touch! We also compiled all of the company’s corporate mottos and words into a montage for one wall. The project took five months to complete, with fitting taking three weeks within that time – fitting as rooms were painted and completed.

The Impact

The completed project looked fantastic, with all staff, in particular Niki Barker, Director of People and Culture, being excited about the result. The spaces were bold, branded and welcoming, with a professional finish.
"We had previously worked with Hugh and the team on a number of smaller projects for the Society to support our ambition for a creative people strategy for all our employees. This turned out really well and so In 2017 when we embarked on our biggest design project to date we knew the team at AlphaGraphics would help us achieve this. We had a vision to create a modern, forward thinking but homely environment for our employees, clients and customers. The team were instrumental in turning my many ideas into a reality.

"I really would say this was the ultimate collaboration and partnership as we worked together wall-by-wall and room-to-room to bring our brand to life in the premises with bold and vibrant ideas that were fresh and different.

The team are fantastic to work with, with great ideas, advice and innovation whilst always working within the budget we set out to achieve this within. From design to manufacture to install, all the team have been a pleasure to work with. Our story with the AG doesn't end at this project and we look forward to what the next design challenge we work with them on!"
